ARC breaks ground on new multi-purpose building
On June 12, representatives of the ARC (Association for Rights of
Citizens with Developmental Disabilities) broke ground at the location of
their new multi-purpose building, which will be built behind the current ARC
home on Bonhomie Road. The building will be used for leisure
recreation and will feature a theatre, a kitchen, an exercise room and more.

Rob Stultz selected for President's Choice Spirit of United Way Award
At the 2008-2009 Annual Meeting, Past Board President Skippy Haik recognized
Rob Stultz as the President's Choice Spirit of United Way Award winner.

Way holds Annual Meeting/Thank You Banquet
On April 21, United Way of Southeast Mississippi held its Annual
Meeting/Thank You Banquet at the Jackie Dole Sherrill Community Center to
thank our volunteers and organizations that participated in the 2008-09
community campaign. At the banquet, Campaign Chair Allen Anderson was
proud to announce that the '08-'09 Campaign raised over $1.62 million, which
fell just short of the $1.7 million goal but was slightly above the amount
raised last year.

Cooper Power Presents Check
Cooper Power Systems in Lumberton recently presented United Way of
Southeast Mississippi with a check representing the company's annual
corporate contribution. Cooper Power has been a long-time United Way
supporter, and we are grateful for their continued giving.

Drawing Held for Home Sweet Home Raffle
On March 9, Charles Griffith's name was drawn as the winner in the
7th annual Home Sweet Home Raffle. Over 2,000 tickets were sold in the
raffle, and the drawing was shown live on WDAM-TV. For more

7th Annual Home Sweet Home Raffle Kicks Off
Ticket sales in the 7th Annual Home Sweet Home Raffle sponsored by
the Greater Hattiesburg Home Builders Association and Leaf River Cellulose
began January 16 at a special ribbon-cutting at the new home.
Representatives of Leaf River Cellulose also made a presentation of $70,000
to United Way to help cover the organization's costs of the raffle.
This allows more of the proceeds to go to United Way and its 21 partner

USM AOP Chapter Makes Annual Donation
The Association of Office Professionals at Southern Miss recently
presented United Way of Southeast Mississippi with a check for over $2,000.
The check represented proceeds from the organization's annual Santa's
Bargain Basement Mega Garage Sale. The professional organization,
along with the Delta Tau Delta fraternity at Southern Miss, have organized
the garage sale fundraiser for United Way for 15 years. United Way
appreciates the continued support from both campus organizations.
United Way Holds Dropout Summit
On October 1, United Way of Southeast Mississippi brought together
education, business and other community leaders for a Dropout Prevention
Summit at the Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg. Hundreds
of participants listened to speakers and then took part in breakout sessions
to address the challenging issue of high school dropouts in our community.
