HATTIESBURG, MISS. – United Way of Southeast Mississippi (UWSEMS) has welcomed Clarissa Ewell as the new director of its volunteer center, Volunteer Southeast Mississippi.
Ewell, a native of Baytown, Texas, has joined the organization as director of Volunteer Southeast Mississippi, a program of UWSEMS. Volunteer Southeast Mississippi is a member of the Mississippi HUB Network for Volunteers and Nonprofits. Ewell will be building the Regional Volunteer Hub infrastructure and successfully directing its activities for the purpose of strengthening nonprofits, increasing citizen involvement through volunteering and helping prepare the community for disaster response.
Ewell is a graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Communication. While at USM, Ewell was heavily involved with the Student Media Center. She anchored for Southern Miss TV, as well as wrote for the Student Printz and was the executive producer of WUSM.
Ewell moved to Hattiesburg 15 years ago and has considered the Hub City her hometown since.
“Mississippi is my second home and continues to be a place of solace, healing and growth,” said Ewell. “I hope to take my passion and commitment to interpersonal relationships and create a culture of partners and volunteers who value people and community.”
United Way CEO Tracie Fowler said there’s no doubt that Ewell will be a valuable asset to the organization.
“We are excited to welcome Clarissa to our team,” said Fowler. “With her background in Communications and her hands-on experience as a volunteer with a passion for helping others, I believe Clarissa will be instrumental in our efforts to build bridges between nonprofits in need and volunteers who have a heart to serve, all for the greater good of our local communities.”
